Learning outcomes of course unit
  1. Acquisition of knowledge and understanding related to switching, control and protection devices, their purpose and areas of application, requirements for them, operating conditions, principle of operation and characteristics of the main groups of low, medium and high voltage electrical devices, as well as complete devices. Know the classification, requirements for electrical devices, types of electrical contacts and physical principles of switching off electrical circuits. Determine the structure and principles of operation of low-voltage electrical devices, including ship's electric drive devices and power plants, as well as the design of device units, their operating modes, and operational characteristics. Determine the structure and principles of operation of electrical devices of high-voltage switchgear, as well as the design of apparatus units, modes of their operation, operational characteristics.
  2. Acquisition of competencies, which are manifested in the ability to apply the acquired knowledge and understanding on the basis of a professional approach in the field of electrical devices within the framework of a kind of classes at the level of a specialist with qualifications of the first cycle of higher education, including the use of electrical devices for the safe use of electrical energy.
  3. Acquisition of competencies, which are manifested in the ability to collect and interpret the necessary data and, on this basis, to put forward and defend arguments regarding certain properties of electrical devices, as well as trends in their development, considering electrical devices as an integral part of electrical engineering - a branch of science and technology that covers the production, transformation and consumption of electrical energy in practical human activity.
  4. Acquisition of communication skills in relation to electrical equipment in terms of considering the requirements of international standards, in particular terminology, designations, markings, etc., as well as the ability to convey information, ideas, problems and solutions about electrical devices to an audience consisting of both specialists and non-specialists.
  5. Acquisition by cadets of practical skills in mastering the methods and techniques of checking and testing electrical devices; the ability to connect electrical devices to the electrical circuits of the ship's main electrical equipment.
Types of educational work lectures, practical classes, laboratory classes.
